Notes: Chloritoid occurrence reported by Doug Rumble of the Carnegie Geophysical Laboratory, Washington, DC.
Chloritoid is typically found in low grade regional metamorphic rocks, rich in aluminum and iron. At higher metamorphic temperatures, staurolite and/or almandine form. Chloritoid is uncommon in New Hampshire, but more common to the to the west in Vermont.
